We have seen a couple of videos in which handsets like the iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 are pitted against each other in a speed test. In every video, it is clear that the Galaxy S6 came out the winner as the handset had no problems loading up a variety of apps, including games, in a relatively short amount of time compared to the iPhone 6.
However while the phone might come out on top in terms of loading times, how about performance? Is the Galaxy S6’s speedy loading time an accurate representation of how well it will actually perform? It turns out not necessarily so, according to a recent report from GameBench in which they benchmarked the performance of both phones, along with other handsets such as the HTC One M9 and the Nexus 6.
As you can see in the charts above, the iPhone 6 is clearly the winner in terms of gaming performance. The handset beat out the competition in terms of median and minimum FPS, and also beat them out in terms of overall FPS stability which is just as important. After all what’s the use of playing a game boasting 60fps if it can barely hold onto it for extended periods of time, right?
That being said, GameBench does note that there are several factors in which the results are the way they are. For example they point out that the Galaxy S6 runs games at a higher resolution which might account for the lower FPS. They also note that some developers might choose to optimize their games for iOS/Android devices, so the end result is that some apps might perform better on one platform compared to the other.
We concur that those are valid points but if you’re already set on an iPhone 6, Galaxy S6, One M9, or Nexus 6, then perhaps these benchmarks might be worth taking note of just to get an idea of how well they perform.
