According to Intel, their new RealSense camera is small enough to fit inside of a smartphone. It also reportedly runs cooler than its predecessor. Intel also claims that their new RealSense camera has a longer detection range as well, but unfortunately it seems that Intel’s CEO Brian Krzanich did not demonstrate the camera’s technology on stage, something that he has done in the past.
That being said, the company’s camera will be making its way into tablets designed for Chinese online retail giant JD. Intel took the opportunity at the event to announce their new partnership with the company as well as share information that the new RealSense camera will be integrated into a tablet that will help with JD’s warehouse management.
Basically by using the tablet with the RealSense camera, the system can detect and measure the required box sizes for a variety of different products, thus giving JD the necessary information on the amount of space required for shipping or storage. It is unclear as to when Intel’s RealSense camera will find its way into consumer smartphones, but it will be interesting to see when it does.
