If you’re thinking of buying yourself a new iMac, you might want to prep yourself for a wait of around 3-5 days. This is according to sightings on Apple’s website in which the estimated shipping time for the iMac is now listed as 3-5 days, but what does this mean? Could it be that a refresh is coming up?
Given that last year Apple launched the 21.9-inch iMac in June, it does feel like a refresh could be on its way. Apple’s other iMac models have also not been refreshed for quite a while now, since September 2013 last we checked, so it certainly does sound like it would about time that Apple made some hardware refreshes.
However it would only apply to those particular models as the 5k Retina iMac was only introduced in October. That being said, the folks at MacRumors are speculating that chances of Apple introducing hardware refreshes might only take place in the second quarter of 2015, which we are currently in at the moment. This is because it is expected that Apple will use the desktop class version of its Broadwell chips in the new iMacs.
So what could the delay mean? Like we said it could be signs of an impending refresh, or it could also be a fluctuation in Apple’s inventory and that once they have managed to get their supply all figured out, things should go back to normal, but either way we will keep our eyes peeled for more info.
