As you might have heard, IKEA plans on launching a series of new furniture that will come with wireless charging built into them. Given that wireless charging is starting to catch on, it certainly makes sense for the feature to be built in thus creating a neater solution. That being said, not every smartphone out there is capable of wireless charging.
This is something that IKEA has thought of as they have revealed that their wireless charging furniture will include adapters for devices without wireless charging, like Apple’s iPhone lineup for example. The furniture company has revealed that they will be selling adapters for the iPhone 6, iPhone 4, and iPhone 5. As for Android handsets, there will be adapters for the Samsung Galaxy S5, Galaxy S3, and Galaxy S4.
This is actually a pretty good idea for customers who might have been lamenting that they won’t be able to take advantage of IKEA’s wireless charging furniture because their handsets don’t support it. Of course there will be other handsets without wireless charging and it’s not practical for IKEA to support every single one of them.
However given that IKEA will be incorporating the Qi wireless technology, one can always turn to third-party solutions that will give non-wireless charging devices the ability, such as addons or cases. In the meantime IKEA has announced that their wireless charging furniture is expected to be made available later this month.
