Dish’s internet TV streaming service Sling TV has scored a major win. Sling TV has become the first live internet TV service to offer HBO across all devices that support the service. Not only will subscribers be able to stream HBO proper they will also have access to video-on-demand content that the cable giant has to offer. It has also been confirmed that HBO will go live prior to the Game of Thrones season 5 premiere on April 12th.
Sling TV’s basic package costs $20 per month and provides access to channels like TBS, CNN, TNT, AMC, Cartoon Network, Disney, Lifetime, History, H2 and many others.
HBO will be available as a separate option for $15 per month. That’s on top of the $20 per month that Sling TV subscribers have to pay. For $15 they get HBO live as well as the very same VOD library that HBO provides to other platforms.
Even though a release date has not been provided it has been confirmed that HBO will go live on Sling TV before Game of Thrones season 5 premieres on April 12th.
This will be a great way for Sling TV to bring on new subscribers that can’t sign up for HBO Now immediately. HBO Now is the cable giant’s own $15 per month live TV streaming service that will be exclusive to Apple’s devices for the first three months.
On the other hand Sling TV apps are readily available for Android, Windows, iOS, Mac as well as the Roku players, certain Roku TV models and even the Xbox One. Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick users also have an app available to them.
We’ve been told that the final launch date of HBO on Sling TV will be announced “soon,” so we’ll update you when that information comes in.
