HBO is the first major cable channel to come out with its internet TV streaming service. HBO Now, which was announced last month, has already gone live on Apple’s devices. It will remain exclusive to those devices for three months. If you don’t have an Apple TV, iOS device or a Mac you don’t need to worry as there’s another way to stream HBO live and access its VOD library. Just get Sling TV.
Sling TV has actually become the first internet TV streaming service to offer HBO. For an extra $15 per month, Sling TV subscribers will be able to stream the linear channel and will also be able to access all of the VOD content that HBO Now subscribers get. There really won’t be a difference.
Since HBO Now went live on Apple’s devices yesterday the question about its launch on Sling TV has come up repeatedly. As per a new report, Sling TV subscribers can expect to start streaming HBO by Saturday.
A spokesperson for the service did confirm to Engadget that people who pay an additional $15 per month to subscribe to HBO won’t receive a login for HBO Go. There really won’t be need for it since they will be able to access all of the same content offered to HBO Go users straight through Sling TV.
There is a downside to this though. Sling TV isn’t available on all platforms like HBO Go is, PlayStation is a prime example, so unless you’re on a platform that supports Sling TV you’re pretty much out of luck.
Sling TV does support a wide variety of platforms though, including iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick as well as the Xbox One.
