Running around and jacking cars in real life is probably not the best idea and is probably a really quick way to land yourself in prison. However if you’ve always wondered what it might be like, here’s a safer alternative – Grand Theft Auto 5 for the Oculus Rift. Yup, you read that right, it looks like some gamers have managed to bring the game over onto the virtual reality headset.
This will allow gamers to experience the city of Los Santos in a completely new way and we have to admit that it is pretty damn awesome. The Oculus Rift version for the game is only available for the PC version of GTA 5 which was released not too long ago with its VR functionality enabled by vorpX. Now in terms of gameplay, there really isn’t much at the moment.
According to the mod’s creator, it seems that he was more interested in just creating a VR experience. “I was really hoping for VR support in this game, I’m not really into missions and all that just speeding about shooting people and causing carnage is entertainment enough.” Now we’ve seen a mod that allows for first-person perspective in the game, but this definitely takes things to a whole new level.
If you’d like to take this for a spin, you will need to download vorpX as well as own the Oculus Rift DK2. If you don’t own that and are not willing to splash the cash for it, then just enjoy the video above.
