Gold tends to attract people and that’s why companies like Apple and Samsung are selling their phones with a coat of gold paint. Now that’s not actual gold since they can’t expect to sell units that cost a couple of thousand dollars at the very least to the average consumer but there are people who are willing to pay more for that extra bling. That’s where third party companies come in who will happily gold-plate a device for you. Karalux, a company based in Vietnam, is going just that.
Karalux’s engineers can take apart a Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge and have it gold-plated for you in under three hours despite the fact that it’s a 10 stage process which requires careful handling.
The company has already gold-plated many smartphones in the past, and even supercars, so it certainly known its way around 24K gold.
Obviously it won’t just dip the entire device into a steaming tub of melted gold. The Galaxy S6’s metal frame gets the gold treatment as well as bits and pieces of the trim. It certainly looks much better than gold paint.
This doesn’t come cheap though. Karalux is charging $1,300 for the Galaxy S6 and $1,500 for the Galaxy S6 Edge, but you do save on shipping. The company is offering free international shipping through FedEx with every order.
