Facebook often tweaks News Feed to ensure that users get the best possible experience when they’re spending time on the world’s biggest social network and today it has done just that. The company looked at all the feedback it had received from users who rated their personal News Feed to tell Facebook how it could further improve it. As a result of all that feedback, Facebook is making three changes to the way News Feed surfaces content from your friends, Pages you’ve liked, personalities you follow and groups you are a part of.
The first change is geared towards people who don’t have a lot of content available in the News Feed. Previously there were rules in place that barred multiple posts from the same source appearing in a row but Facebook has relaxed this rule now.
Facebook says that the second update is going to ensure that content posted by “friends you care about,” such as photos, videos, status updates or links are displayed higher up in the News Feed than before so that users are less likely to miss out.
It’s all about balance with this update. It won’t take away content from the Pages that you like to see updates from, rather it will try to find that perfect balance between updates from friends and Pages.
The social network also heard from many users who didn’t like seeing stories in their News Feed about their friends liking or commenting on a post. These stories will now appear lower down in News Feed, or not at all, so that much more relevant stuff can find its way to the top.
