Earlier this week Cyanogen released OS 12 for OnePlus One handsets with a promise that the OS 12 release for Yu Yureka handsets would be coming soon, although we did not think “soon” meant this week because the company has officially announced that the update should be rolling out to Yu Yureka users starting today.
For those unfamiliar, the Yu Yureka is a new handset effort from India’s Micromax. The phone will come with Cyanogen OS preinstalled which is great news for those who are fans of the Cyanogen platform. However we should note that this is different from CyanogenMod which is the community-driven version, while Cyanogen OS comes directly from the company itself.
The handset has proven to be extremely popular in the country as it was sold out in a matter of seconds, according to an earlier report. There was some controversy surrounding its launch as it meant that Cyanogen’s other partner, OnePlus, would no longer be supported in the country in terms of future updates, leading to OnePlus to create its OxygenOS platform which would be an alternative to Cyanogen and for future OnePlus devices.
In the meantime Cyanogen has managed to secure a partnership with Microsoft in which the Redmond company’s apps and services are expected to be bundled into Cyanogen OS in the future which might be of interest to some users.
