According to The Verge who reviewed the 2015 Retina MacBook Pro, it was discovered that running Chrome on the laptop resulted in a severe battery drain. How they tested it was by setting the screen’s brightness to 65% and cycle through a series of websites until the laptop’s battery is dead. Using Safari nabbed the laptop a battery life of 13 hours and 18 minutes which is pretty impressive.
However using Chrome on the other hand netted them 9 hours and 45 minutes of battery. Granted close to 10 hours of battery is still pretty good for a laptop, but if you’re a frequent traveller and you’re trying to get the most from your laptop’s battery, then it seems that Safari might be the better browser.
That being said, Chrome’s battery drain on Apple’s MacBooks is pretty well known but it looks like after years of users complaining, it looks like neither Apple nor Google have really done much about it.
