Basically all you’d have to do is type into search “find my phone” and it will attempt to locate your device on the map. It will also bring up the function to allow you to ring your device so that if it’s around you, you will be able to hear it. Unfortunately Google was not very specific on how the feature would work, but presumably users would be required to sign into their accounts on the web and on their phone in order for the feature to work.
This is actually a feature that Google introduced a while ago in their Android Device Manager tool (we explain how to use Android Device Manager to find your phone). Basically this is a similar feature that allowed users to locate their missing device on a map and could also ring it. It also had the ability for users to securely erase all the data on their device in the event that their phone is truly lost/stolen.
So with the addition of the feature to regular Google search, Google has made it easier for Android users to locate their device without having to go through the Android Device Manager. However like we said, the Android Device Manager will let users erase its contents so if that’s a feature you want to take advantage of, you’ll have to use the tool for it, other than that a quick Google search might do the trick.
