If one wanted to film a video, they might go for a dedicated camcorder, and if one wanted to snap photos, they’d probably pick up a proper camera. However who says that you can’t have the best of both worlds, right? Canon has recently announced their latest camcorder in the form of the Canon XC10.
This digital camcorder has the ability to record videos in 4K resolution but at the same time it is also able to snap photos at 12MP, which for the most part is more than enough unless you want to some serious cropping or if you’re going for extraordinarily large prints. The XC10 will come with a 10x wide-angle zoom lens of 27.3-273mm for movies, and 24.1-241mm for photos.
Canon is boasting that its sensor has a dynamic range of 12 stops which is pretty impressive for a 1-inch CMOS sensor, and it also has the ability to shoot videos in slow-mo or sped up, depending on your needs. For photographers, the XC10 will support time-lapse still photography and will come with WiFi support, a vari-angle LCD display, and a rotating handgrip.
As for videos, the XC10 will be able to capture video in 4K and Full HD resolution to a CFast card for the former and an SD card for the latter at 305Mbps/29.97P in 4K and 50Mbps/59.94P in Full HD. The camera will be priced at $2,500 and will be bundled with a 64GB SanDisk CFast memory card and card reader and is expected to be released in June this year.
