BitTorrent Reportedly Sacked 40 Employees In The US

BitTorrent

BitTorrent has reportedly sacked few of its employees in the US. It has been revealed by the Buzzfeed along with many anonymous sources that the company has dismissed around 40 employees out of total workforce of 150.

Regardless of its mighty recognition (mainly as the torrent downloader) and few profit-sharing collaborations with major musical acts, BitTorrent failed to break its conceived image of “pirated-media provider” among the consumers. Not many of the general users know that the company also provides another line of products as well.

BitTorrent also used to deal in peer-to-peer products and services, but people barely know about it. Not many of users were even aware of another service provided by the company, known as Bleep, which was a peer-to-peer messaging app.

The untimely employee lay off has been reportedly made by the company to rather focus on streamlining and to work on Sync, which is a cloud storage system based on company’s P2P file sharing system.

Moreover, to clear the air about the lay offs, Bittorrent’s PR issued a comment, that stated, “We’ve recently realigned resources based on a regular evaluation of the business. Regrettably, this did include some employee departures. The business however, remains healthy, profitable and growing.”
