Over the past couple of months there have been rumors that perhaps Apple is going to launch a smaller iPhone in 2015, rumors claim that it will have a 4-inch display. A famed Apple analyst has weighed in on this as well and he claims that it’s “unlikely” that Apple will do this in 2015. He doesn’t completely rule out the possibility, only that he doesn’t see it happening this year.
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo writes in a note to investors today that the iPhone 5c is probably going to go end of life this year, which means that come fall Apple’s low-end slot will be filled by the iPhone 5s.
This is why he believes that the 4-inch iPhone isn’t coming this year, but Kuo believes that Apple might release a 4-inch iPhone next year. It may be Apple’s way to bring in customers who don’t want to switch to larger displays and will be content with a 4-inch iPhone.
As always, Apple has not commented on rumors about this product. The company is not due to launch new iPhones until the fall and given that it made a major change in display sizes just last year, it won’t be surprising if this time around it decides to hold off on a smaller iPhone.
