amazon-sign-652x350When buying a product on Amazon and you’re still unsure about your purchase, all you’d have to do is scroll to the bottom of the page and read the user reviews. For the most part these reviews are generally helpful and for the most part, they are also real. However it seems that there are instances where the reviews have turned out to be fake and this is something Amazon isn’t too happy about.

The company has since filed a lawsuit against an operator of several websites that allegedly allow companies to purchase fake 4- and 5-star ratings for their products. The websites are called buyazonreviews.com, buyamazonreviews.com, bayreviews.net, and buyreviewsnow.com. Basically all these websites will allegedly allow the purchase of fake reviews for products.

As it stands thankfully these fake reviews don’t appear to be too widespread, but Amazon is trying to nip this in the bud before it gets out of hand. According to the lawsuit, “While small in number, these reviews threaten to undermine the trust that customers, and the vast majority of sellers and manufacturers, place in Amazon, thereby tarnishing Amazon’s brand.”

Hopefully there isn’t too much damage or any lasting damage that has been done to Amazon’s review system as many users do rely on it to make their purchase decision.
