One day Amazon would like to deliver packages in the United States in less than half an hour using drones. For that to happen the company needs to conduct thorough trials of Amazon Prime Air, its drone delivery program. However regulations have proved to be tricky and have not enabled the company to test these drones Stateside. Finally there’s respite for the company as Amazon has been allowed to test its delivery drones in the country.

Amazon has received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration to test its delivery drones. As per the approval document the company has to ensure that drones are flown at 400 feet or under and their speed must not exceed 100 miles per hour.

FAA did previously grant permission to Amazon but that was for an earlier prototype. By the time the approval arrived Amazon had actually created a newer prototype so the approval was of no use to the company.

The regulator took so long to approve the request that by the time it arrived Amazon had already retired that prototype as it had become obsolete.

This time around though the FAA has done things quickly. It has granted Amazon approval in less than a month which means that now the company can get down to the business to testing its delivery drones.
