Windows 10 Minimum Hardware Requirements Revealed

We’re sure many of you guys are looking forward to seeing what Microsoft has in store for you in Windows 10. So far it looks like initial feedback from users based on the previews have largely been positive but if you’re planning on upgrading to Windows 10, does your computer have what it takes in order to run it?

The good news is that Microsoft has recently unveiled the minimum hardware requirements needed in order to run the operating system for both desktops and mobile devices. Starting with the SoCs, Microsoft has listed support for Qualcomm, Intel, and AMD. Supported Qualcomm chipsets include the MSM8909, MSM8208, MSM8994, MSM8992, and the MSM8952.

Intel chipsets are the Cherry Trail, Skylake, and Atom x3 (LTE). AMD chipsets include the Carrizo and the Carrizo-L. In terms of mobile devices, the hardware requirements will vary depending on your resolution. The minimum has been listed as 512MB of RAM and will go as high as 4GB the higher the resolution. Supported display sizes range from 3-inches up to 7.99-inches for it to be considered a Windows Mobile device.

When it comes Windows for desktops, Microsoft will require consumer-based devices to have a display 8-inches or greater, or 7-inches or greater for “Pro” devices with a minimum resolution of 800×600. It will require 1GB of RAM for 32-bit systems and 2GB of 64-bit. We reckon for the most part most computers should be able to handle Windows 10 without any issues, but in terms of mobile devices, it’s nice to know that QHD resolutions will be supported so it remains to be seen if any OEM will take advantage of that.
