Android users of WhatsApp have had access to the voice calling feature for a few weeks now and it wasn’t too long ago that it was hinted that the iOS version could be coming soon. For iOS users who are looking forward to that feature, you wait could soon be over. According to WhatsApp’s co-founder Brian Acton, the feature could be arriving in the next few weeks.
Acton revealed this at the Facebook F8 conference where he confirmed that iOS users can look forward to voice calling within a couple of weeks, but unfortunately Acton did not provide any specific dates, but either way we guess we won’t have to wait much longer for it. This isn’t the first time that WhatsApp has favored Android in terms of updates but at least the wait won’t be too long.
As it stands WhatsApp users on iOS can already send voice messages to one another by pressing and holding the microphone button while talking, but we suppose making VoIP calls via WhatsApp would be a lot more convenient and efficient. It would also allow WhatsApp to compete with other messaging platforms such as Skype, Viber, and LINE, all of which already allow users to make VoIP calls within the app.
In fact Facebook Messenger already offers such a feature so we guess it was only a matter of time before it eventually made its way onto WhatsApp. We will be keeping our eyes peeled for more information regarding its availability so do check back with us in the next few weeks for the details.
