Volvo’s Reflective Spray Paint Will Protect Cyclists At Night

Swedish car firm Volvo has partnered with Grey London, a design firm based in the United Kingdom, and Albedo100 to develop a reflective spray paint that’s going to keep cyclists safe as they ride at night. You may already have an idea of what this product does. Once the spray paint is applied to the cycle it remains invisible until it’s hit by the glare of car’s headlights. That’s when it glows to ensure that the driver can make out the cyclist up ahead.

The product is called LifePaint but it’s not paint per se. It’s actually a washable material which when applied lasts for about ten days. It remains invisible so the actual color of the cycle itself is not changed.

In its statement Volvo pointed out that every year over 19,000 cyclists are injured on the UK’s roads and that this is just one of its endeavors to making the roads “a safer place by reducing the number of accidents.”

LifePaint can be applied to a lot of other things as well. According to the company this product works just fine with helmets, shoes, clothes, dog leashes and backpacks.

Don’t expect to pick up LifePaint from your local Volvo dealer though. The company is only selling it through a handful of cycling shops in Kent and London right now. Volvo might release LifePaint in other countries as well if the initial response is good enough.
