However instead of putting a software engineer in charge of the redesign, it seems that Apple has turned to Nine Inch Nails’ frontman Trent Reznor to make the changes. The report goes on to add that it looks like Apple has not managed to convince record labels to go along with their plans to offer up their new music streaming service at a lower rate compared to the competition. Apple had initially planned to offer their new service at a subscription of less than $10 a month which is something the labels weren’t too happy about.
Toni Sacconaghi, a financial analyst for Sanford C. Bernstein attributes Apple’s inability to negotiate the rates as a result of being late to the streaming game. “They’re used to being a shaper rather than a responder. This is one of the few times where Apple is playing catch-up and not necessarily coming from a position of strength.” In any case more information is expected to be revealed at WWDC 2015 later this year, so we’ll just have to wait and see if Apple has truly got a Spotify-killer on their hands.
