The watch industry’s main event of the year, Baselworld, is well and truly underway. Some of the biggest brands have unveiled their new collections. With all of the recent buzz around smartwatches some Swiss watchmakers have also turned their attention to such products as well. The Swatch Group’s Tissot brand unveiled a prototype smartwatch at Baselworld 2015. It expects to have a fully functional product out later this year.
Tissot’s prototype is enclosed inside a T-Touch Solar Expert. It can hook up to an outdoor Bluetooth weather station which will actually be supplied as part of the final retail package.
Since the external weather station will have a variety of sensors it will provide more accurate information about barometric pressure, humidity, temperature, altitude and more.
Tissot’s smartwatch will also work with small locators, one will be provided with the package as well, that can be attached to different items like wallets or mobile phones for proximity alarms and even navigation using the watch hands.
The company also plans on including NFC in its smartwatch which will open up a new variety of features, including but not limited to mobile payments. Tissot says its smartwatch will be available by the end of this year. It has not revealed pricing details as yet.
