Watching a skilled dancer dance is impressive enough. The amount of concentration, practice, coordination, and sometimes improvisation that goes into creating a dance routine is something you should not snub your nose at, so imagine if you are able to slow it all down and watch dancers pull off some crazy moves in slow-motion, wouldn’t that be even more impressive?
As it turns out Tristan Pope had that idea when he managed to gather several dancers and have them perform some of their best moves in the streets, slow it all down using the slo-mo feature on his iPhone 6, and compiling it all into a rather impressive video which you can watch in the video above. Not only is this amazing to watch, but it is also handy for dancers who are looking to break down their moves and to see where they might have messed up and where they can improve upon.
This is obviously not the first time that the idea of using slow-motion to teach students has come up. Speaking to the folks at WIRED, freelance dancer and dance instructor Ashley Marinelli said, “If my students can’t understand the momentum of a certain movement, slo-mo makes it a really simple thing to break it down.” Pope’s efforts have resulted in a short film called Dancers of New York (see video above) which landed him a spot in the International Mobil Film Festival. If you have a couple of minutes to spare, do check it out. Perhaps you might be inspired to record your own slo-mo dance videos as well!
