According to the folks at TechCrunch, they have learnt that the Apple Watch has a port hidden inside the strap connector. Apparently this is used for diagnostics and debugging purposes, but they have also speculated that it is possible that eventually this could be opened up to third-party developers who might want to create something special for the Apple Watch.
For example someone could come up with a smart band that could offer up additional sensing capabilities that were not part of the original Apple Watch. It could be used to attach straps with extra battery hidden inside them, it could be used to create straps that light up, or it could be used to connect additional accessories in the future.
However it should be noted that the port will not be shipped with the final version of the Apple Watch, but like we said, this has led to speculation that this could open the door to future Apple Watch releases where the port would be made available to third-party developers. It’s an interesting concept but not a new one, but what do you guys think of that idea?
