A few days back Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk had said that the company is going to roll out a software update for the Model S all electric car which will end “range anxiety.” That’s a feeling that electric car owners feel when they see their vehicle’s charge levels go down. Today Tesla finally revealed its proposed fix for range anxiety, which come to think of it, is a feeling that all electric car owners will experience regardless of whether that vehicle was made by Tesla or not. At least Tesla wants to do something about it.

A new software update will soon land on Tesla Model S cars. The update brings a new app called Range Assurance. This app will run in the background constantly, even if turn by turn navigation is not being used, and it will communicate in real time with Tesla’s network of destination chargers and superchargers.

The app will automatically disregard chargers that are under heavy use. Moreover it will warn the driver if they’re moving too far out of a charger’s range. Musk says “This makes it effectively impossible for a Model S driver to run out of range unintentionally.”

Musk revealed that the software update for the Model S is going to arrive in two weeks. The update also brings Trip Planner with talks to Tesla’s fleet and chargers to offer drivers a preview of how they’ll fare on a long distance trip.
