Late last year T-Mobile continued with its string of “uncarrier” announcements and launched a new program called Data Stash. The program has been designed to let customers hold on to their unused mobile data for longer. T-Mobile no longer wastes unused data after customers reach the end of their billing cycle. Instead the data will be stored in a “Data Stash” for one year. The carrier announced today that this program is now being expanded to its prepaid customers as well.
Starting March 22nd Data Stash will expand to Simple Choice prepaid customers. All customers with a qualifying Simple Choice plan will start out with a Starter Stash with allocation for up to 10GB of data. Unused data will be rolled forward for an entire year without any extra charges.
Keep in mind that Data Stash is only being expanded to T-Mobile’s own prepaid service. MVNOs that run on the carrier’s network will not have access to this program so their users won’t be able to roll over unused data.
Data that’s stored in the Stash will become accessible for use if users exceed their allotment in a subsequent billing cycle. Those who are on T-Mobile’s $30 5GB and 100 minute prepaid plan will not have access to Data Stash.
