For quite some time now SpaceX had been facing pressure from campaigners who wanted it to follow in NASA’s footsteps and release its images to the public. SpaceX’s first batch has been uploaded to Flickr and it contains over 100 photos. Initially the photos were released under a Creative Commons license which allowed anybody to download and reuse the images as they saw fit as long as SpaceX was properly credited. Also the company’s photos could not be used for commercial purposes. However it only took a tweet to convince SpaceX boss Elon Musk to make them part of the public domain.
Elon Musk had announced the move on Twitter, that SpaceX photos are available to everybody under a Creative Commons license. He then received quite a few replies which asked him why the photos weren’t just made public domain to begin with?
Looks like it all made sense to the SpaceX boss who tweeted back to someone who had raised the question in just under one hour and confirmed that all photos had been changed to full public domain.
@Pandoomic Just changed them to full public domain

This means there are no restrictions on the SpaceX official photos, they can be downloaded and modified in any way you see fit.
You can access the first batch of official photos from SpaceX on Flickr.
