Sony’s smartphone business isn’t doing as well as they would like it to be. In fact there have been talks that Sony might even consider selling off that division. However the PlayStation brand on the other hand looks like it is doing extremely well for the company and according to the latest numbers shared by Sony, it was found that over in the UK, the PlayStation platform managed to net Sony a cool £3 billion in revenue.
This is according to Sony’s third quarter which ended on the 31st of December 2014 and based on the numbers for Sony’s Game & Network Services division, it generated 531.5 billion yen which when converted is roughly £3 billion. This made for a 16.8% year-on-year increase in sales which are largely thanks to Sony’s latest video game console, the PlayStation 4.
However it seems that not every PlayStation product is doing well. As expected there is a decrease in sales of the PlayStation 3 which is to be expected as more gamers upgrade to next-gen consoles. This also led to a decrease in the number of PlayStation 3 games that were sold as well. The report also saw Sony introduce a £62 million write-down of the PlayStation Vita and PS TV components as both these devices aren’t selling as well as Sony would like, but overall it looked like a good year for Sony.
