In November last year Microsoft confirmed that it is going to rebrand its business communications solution called Lync. Today the company confirmed when it intends to do that. It also revealed that Skype for Business is going to replace Lync as its business communications suite. The formal announcement has been scheduled for March 18th.
Microsoft had said last year that “the next version of Lync will become Skype for Business with a new client experience, new server release and updates to the service in Office 365.”
The company posted a video on Facebook which featured its corporate vice president for Skype Business Services Zig Serafin, it’s just an invitation to users who want to watch the keynote, it will be streamed live on March 18th at 10:00 ET. The @skypebusiness account will live tweet the proceedings. It is during this live stream that the company will formally unveil Skype for Business.
Microsoft has already started using the Skype for Business branding with some of its communications. It is going to introduce a redesigned app which is going to replace Lync. The company has also promised that the new service will keep and improve all of the capabilities of Lync, this includes content sharing and telephony.
