Shipping Containers Actually Hold A Farm

It can be quite a challenge in this day and age to obtain food that is grown locally, not to mention in a sustainable manner. This can be even more of a challenge in cities, taking into consideration how land in cities happen to be at a premium. Hence, companies such as Freight Farms and Cropbox have figured out that there is always a solution to any problem, and for this particular issue they decided that shipping containers which come kitted out as self-contained farms would be a good idea.

Cropbox claims that each of its containers will be able to hold up to 3,000 plants, now how about that? Both Freight Farms and Cropbox do offer a mobile app, where owners of those container farms can then check out the data of the environment within the container itself to make sure that their crops are well taken care of.

Hydroponic technology will be employed in the containers, which will see the implementation of a mineral-based solution that will let crops grow in, rather than soil. Of course, the big advantage of this is that the produce will not be affected by prevailing weather conditions, and the conditions can then be tailored in a precise manner.
