With the release of the Samsung Galaxy A-series which featured metal bodies, and the recent announcement of the glass and metal-clad Samsung Galaxy S6, it seems that Samsung has shifted away from their use of plastic and more towards premium materials like glass and metal, but is this a trend that Samsung will be maintaining?
Speaking at Samsung’s 46th Annual General Meeting, the company’s CEO Shin Jong Kyun confirmed that not only will Samsung continue to use these premium materials, but that they will be increasing the use of these materials such as metal casing, high-definition displays, and slim designs in a bid to stand their ground against the onslaught from the competition.
For example the HTC One M9 is one of the few Android handsets made from metal, and if the rumors are to be believed LG could also be thinking about introducing a new design to the LG G4, but whether or not premium materials will be used remains to be seen, but either way Samsung definitely has the edge now.
The company had also recently revealed that they plan on continuing to push low-end smartphones to help capture the emerging market. As it stands companies such as Xiaomi are starting to catchup and over in China, Xiaomi actually displaced Samsung to snag the number one position.
