Nokia’s plans to bring back the HERE Maps app for iPhone have been known for a while now. Today the company finally released the app for the iPhone. HERE Maps makes its return to Apple’s smartphone after being away for over a year. It is one of the best mapping service alternative for users who want something else than Apple’s native Maps app or even Google Maps.
The conventional mapping features are all present. HERE Maps for iPhone also provides users with public transit information, a crucial feature that is still not available in Apple Maps, apart from photos and reviews of locations and live traffic information.
Offline maps is one of the biggest features of this app. Users can store maps on their phone so that they can always access them even when there’s no internet connection. This feature comes in handy particularly when a user is traveling because this way they can not rack up roaming charges.
Nokia says that the new HERE for iOS is a completely different app from the one that was available previously. The old app was based on HTML5, this one has been built from the ground up for iOS, with a beautiful user interface that many users have come to love on its Android counterpart.
Users need at least an iPhone 4S with iOS 7 to install this app, which is available for free from the App Store.
