This was unveiled by the company at MWC 2015 and it is essentially a mobile hotspot with support for LTE Category 9 connectivity. What this means is that the device has the potential to provide download speeds up to 450Mbps, although this could vary depending on the carrier and other factors, but in paper that’s as fast as you could get.
This is thanks to Netgear’s use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X12 LTE modem which according to Netgear’s SVP of LTE Products, Jim Kirkpatrick, “The 3-Carrier Downlink Aggregation of Category 9 LTE Advanced has the potential to offer up to 50 percent faster peak download speeds than Cat 6, enabling better performance, reduced latency, and more reliable connectivity for the end user.”
Kirkpatrick adds, “Category 9 capability makes it easy to attain improved throughput and swifter application response times, providing a better overall experience for streaming data-heavy applications such as multimedia and video.” No word on pricing yet but the Netgear AirCard is expected to be made available later on in the year.
