Ride-sharing services are increasingly becoming popular for a variety of reasons. In some cases they can be cheaper than regular cabs. Some people just love the convenience that they offer. Lyft is just one of the services that’s competing in this market. Uber is another, which has grown substantially over the past few years, and now has a truly global presence. Lyft today announced that it will start accepting payments through Google Wallet for rides.

Lyft already supports both PayPal and Apple Pay. With the addition of Google Wallet it is offering more flexibility for riders who can easily pick the mobile payments service of their choice and pay for their ride.

Google Wallet payments can be enabled from the Payment section of the Lyft app. Once the information has been added Google Wallet will become the default payment option. Any credit or debit card can be added to the Wallet account. A bank account can even be linked with it.

Apart from riders, this bodes well for Google Wallet as well which now appears to be on its comeback tour. Recently Google signed a deal with Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile which will put Wallet on the carriers’ Android smartphones. In exchange the Mountain View company purchased Softcard, a payments service that failed to take off, backed by the aforementioned carriers.
