Many would have expected LG to unveil its new flagship at the Mobile World Congress 2015. Its rivals HTC and Samsung did so but LG had made it quite clear before this event that it will not be showing off the LG G4 in Barcelona. Instead the company is going to conduct a separate event in a couple of months to show off its latest flagship smartphone. There is speculation in the industry now that G4’s flagship status might not live that long as LG is expected to unveil a new high-end smartphone later this year.
LG’s recent product announcements include four mid-range smartphones as well as the luxurious LG Watch Urbane and Urbane LTE.
We would have liked to see the G4 as well but clearly the company has other plans. So far LG has not confirmed when it plans on organizing the event where it will unveil the G4.
The idea was to not get caught in the hectic news cycle at MWC 2015, where the likes of HTC and Samsung showed off their flagships, instead create space for the G4 so that it could have an entire news cycle to itself. We’ll have to see how the G4 performs to ascertain whether this strategy did LG any good.
Even though the company hasn’t confirmed anything yet industry speculation suggests that another high-end smartphone is coming from the Korean company later this year. It may have a 10 percent premium over the G4 and have an end use price of around $900.
That’s all there is to know about this device right now so it could go either way, perhaps LG may not follow through with this after all, but there is still a lot of time to go so we’ll keep an eye on how this plays out in the months to come.
