Instagram was already quite popular before Facebook acquired it. The photo sharing service’s popularity has been steadily growing and now it does much more than just let users slap a filter on their pictures. Instagram recently launched a standalone app called Hyperlapse which lets users capture high-quality time lapse videos even when they’re in motion. Today it has launched another standalone app called Layout. This one will let users make beautiful photo collages in mere minutes.
Announced today, Layout from Instagram is a new app that lets users easily combine multiple pictures into a single image. The company says it presents a simple and a completely new way to “flex your creativity.”
Once a user launches Layout the app will automatically show them previews of custom layouts as they choose photos from their camera roll. To allow users to find photos faster a Faces option is included in the app which sorts all photos in the camera roll that have people in them.
Users will have full “artistic control.” They can drag and drop photos to rearrange them, pinch to zoom, flip, rotate or pull the sides of a photo to adjust the size and layout.
To capture those spontaneous moments there’s a Photo Booth included in the app which starts a countdown and captures photos that are instantly shown in a layout.
Layout by Instagram is currently available only for iOS. It is promised though that the app will arrive for Android in the coming months.
