This has led to the creation of a laparoscopic Wii U controller which you can see in the image above. Both sides will be able to hold the Wii U remote and nunchuk each. Developed by Grendel Games, the device was created for use in the company’s adventure game called Underground. The game involves you guiding two of your characters to safety and using the controller to help remove obstacles in the way.
Interestingly enough it seems that the developer believes that through the use of the controller, gamers are also subconsciously being trained in the skills required to perform laparoscopic surgery, and that it’s actually a safer environment since you would basically not kill anyone should you make a mistake.
While we doubt that surgeons will be made during the course of the game, it’s an interesting idea and while we can’t speak to its accuracy compared to a real-life laparoscopic tool and the surgery, it does sound like it has potential to double up as a training simulator of sorts.
