According to an earlier report, it was rumored that Hideo Kojima is getting ready to leave Konami and that the Metal Gear Solid 5 game would be his last game at the company. We also said that it doesn’t make sense for Konami to end the Metal Gear franchise either since it is pretty popular amongst gamers, and it looks like we were right.
According to recent job postings found by the folks at the NeoGAF forums, it looks like Konami is not wasting anytime in trying to recruit new talent to expand its Metal Gear franchise. Of course it could be possible that Konami is just looking to hire as per usual and it might have nothing to do with Kojima’s rumored exit, but as the saying goes, when there’s smoke there’s fire.
Konami and Kojima have yet to officially confirm the latter’s departure, although Kojima did cryptically hint at his exit in a tweet from a few days ago. Konami has also released statements saying that they’ll be shifting their production structure and that Kojima will be continuing to develop and support Metal Gear products, although it is possible that his support will mainly be for existing titles and not future ones.
The company has also removed any mention of Kojima’s names on the Metal Gear website. It used to say “A Hideo Kojima Game” on the game covers but now they don’t. In any case what do you guys think of this development? Would you still be interested in purchasing future Metal Gear titles even if they do not have Kojima’s involvement?
