It is the end of the road for HTC One M7. The company has confirmed that it will no longer release any major update for this smartphone. Android 5.1, which was recently released by Google, will not be making its way to this handset. HTC had promised customers that it would deliver two years of updates starting with the One M7. Now the device’s time is finally up.
The confirmation comes from HTC’s Vice President of Product Management Mo Versi himself through Twitter. In a response to a query about Android 5.1 for HTC One M7, Versi said that only the Google Play Edition variant of this smartphone will receive Android 5.1.
Mo Versi also revealed in the tweet that HTC is looking at an April release for the Android 5.1 update for the Google Play Edition variant of the HTC One M7.
HTC One M7 came with Android 4.1 pre-installed. It has already received the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. The company did provide the support that it said it would but now it no longer makes sense for the company to keep supporting the device.
Hopefully HTC will stick with its promise of supporting flagship devices for two years so that HTC One M9 buyers can rest assured that they will receive all major updates released over the next couple of years.
