It was last Saturday that Cloudera veep of marketing made this announcement, citing that Cloudera will not have a presence at IndyBigData, which is set to happen this May 7th despite being one of the sponsors of the event. Apart from that, EMC president of products and marketing Jeremy Burton, too, tweeted the following, “We intend to take a stand against this discrimination by not attending IndyBigData later this month.”
It remains to be seen the financial consequences that might affect EMC and Cloudera after deciding to boycott the event, since the event’s top sponsorship category, known as ”elephant” happens to cost a whopping $30,000. Well, such sums are normally peanuts to large companies, and just what kind of stand would you take if you happen to be in EMC’s and Cloudera’s shoes? Would you take a similar position, or do things differently?
