This is according to a report from JP Morgan who speculates that Apple will be sticking to the LCD technology for the iPhone 7, and not jumping to OLED which many seem to believe the Cupertino company will be doing. How they arrived at this conclusion is Apple’s deal with Japan Display in which Apple had invested over a billion dollars in the company to ensure the production of 100 million 5-inch LTPS LCD panels every year.
What this signaled to the folks at JP Morgan is that Apple is not quite ready to let go of LCD technology just yet. Based on the number of iPhones Apple sells every year, it seems that those 100 million LCD panels could cover Apple at least until the iPhone 7, so if you’re expecting an OLED iPhone, perhaps the iPhone 7s or the iPhone 8 might be a better bet. Anyone disappointed that the iPhone will be sticking to LCD displays for the next few years?
