Watches And Smartwatches Banned From Some Universities During Exams Amidst Cheating Concerns

Cheating during exams while wrong is often times expected from students who are desperate to pass or who are desperate for a good grade. Back in the day, cheating was relatively low-tech such as writing the answers on your arm, rolling up the answers and stuffing them inside your pen, and so on.

However as technology advances, cheating has also been taken to whole new levels, so much so that a report from BuzzFeed in which it was revealed that some universities are placing a blanket ban of watches from the exam hall, requiring students take them off before sitting for their exam.

Apparently universities are worried that some of these watches might be smartwatches that can connect to the internet, which in turn would allow students to search for answers online or maybe to send messages to friends outside who could then help them with their questions. London’s City University notes that while not all watches are smartwatches, checking every single watch would be impractical.

In fact this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of such a method. Back in 2012 students managed to disguise their mobile phones as wrist watches which they then used to cheat in exams. In China students are particularly innovative and have created all sorts of gadgets that would allow them to cheat, such as hiding a camera inside their glasses.
