However this isn’t the end of it as the $860,000 is merely a penalty in which Typo owes BlackBerry for continuing to sell the Typo case despite being ordered to cease their sales last March, which we have to admit seems like a very expensive lesson. According to Typo regarding the penalty, they see it as “part of the ongoing patent litigation related to the initial Typo product.”
BlackBerry on the other hand believes it to be definitive, saying, “The court’s order speaks for itself.” That being said, Typo has since moved on to the Typo 2 keyboard case accessory for the iPhone, which interestingly enough looks nothing like its predecessor which is actually pretty telling – after all why change a design that works, right?
It is unclear as to what the end result of this lawsuit could be, but so far from what we have heard, it seems that the courts could be leaning towards BlackBerry in this. Perhaps Typo might offer to settle down the road, but for now the battle rages on.
