The selfie culture is truly global and it doesn’t appear to be slowing down. If someone commits a crime you wouldn’t expect them to stick around and take a selfie that’ll put them in hot water with the authorities, but that’s just what 16-year old Maxwell Marion Morton from Jeanette, Penn. did. He has been charged with murder, because he is now believed to have shot a classmate, then stick around long enough to take a selfie with his victim and send it to a friend over Snapchat.
Morton’s friend took a screenshot of the selfie he had received. According to the police it was the unnamed friend’s mother that gave them the screenshot.
They have now charged Morton with first-degree murder, firearms possession and homicide. According to the police Morton shot classmate Ryan Mangan in the face and then took a selfie with the dead body before sending it over Snapchat.
According to The Pittsburgh Tribune Review Westmoreland County District Attorney has said that the selfie was a “key piece of evidence” that ultimately led the investigators to Morton. The scribe also says that he is being charged as an adult.
It is also alleged that Morton sent incriminating text messages which were included in the evidence that ultimately led to him being charged with murder.
