sony-smartbandLast year Sony unveiled the Sony SmartBand SWR10 which was not so much a smartwatch but more of a fitness band. The device along with its accompanying app will allow the wearer to track their fitness goals, monitor their athletic progress, and other fitness-related activities and tracking at the same time.

Now it looks like Sony could be working on a successor/upgrade of the SWR10 in the form of the SWR12. According to the folks at Xperia Blog, the Sony SWR12 has recently made its way through the FCC and has been given the model number SWR12. However it seems for the most part the device is the same as the SWR10 with the exception of a new heart rate sensor.

This will allow the wearable to check on your activity and stress levels. Considering that fitness wearables such as the Microsoft Band, Fitbit Charge, and Jawbone UP3 fitness bands all come with heart rate sensors, we can only imagine that Sony will not want to be the only one left out of that party.

Like we said the only difference we can see here is the inclusion of the heart rate sensor, but perhaps there might be more that Sony hasn’t shared officially yet. No word on when Sony will be launching the updated wearable, but with MWC 2015 kicking off next month, perhaps we could learn more then.
