Snapchat originally introduced the “Our Stories” feature to cover major events like the 2014 Football World Cup and more recently the Grammy Awards. The feature presents a curated and crowdsourced collection to all users around the world who want to follow a particular festival, so during the World Cup Snapchat users could see what people at the venue were sharing on the app, even if they were thousands of miles away. Snapchat is now testing a localized version of Our Stories.
The localized version of this feature would display snaps from people at a certain location and only those who are near to that particular location would be able to view those snaps.
The first local Our Story was spotted by Gordon Tindall in Los Angeles. The notification details how the “TGIF in LA” Our Story is only visible to other Snapchat users in L.A. or those who have been in the city over the past 24 hours.
Snapchat has confirmed to TechCrunch that it is indeed testing out this feature. It did something like this in the past as well. Our Campus Story showed snaps to people present at the same school late last year.
Snapchat hasn’t said when it plans on making local Our Stories live for everybody, but if the response during testing is good enough, it shouldn’t take long for the company to make this announcement.
