Second-Gen NVIDIA Shield Tablet Could Use Tegra X1 Chipset [Rumor]

shield-tablet-review-12A couple of years ago, NVIDIA released the Shield handheld gaming console powered by Android, and last year they released another mobile gaming device in the form of the Shield tablet. Now given NVIDIA’s background in the gaming industry, we’re sure many are curious to see what the company has up their sleeves next.

As it turns out, a second Shield tablet could be in the works. According to the rumors, NVIDIA is expected to launch their second-gen Shield tablet in the coming months. As far as its specs are concerned, word on the street has it that it will be powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra X1 chipset which will be the successor to the K1.

However apart from the change in processor, it is unclear as to what else we can expect, although the X1 is a pretty major improvement with eight cores, 64-bit architecture, and will take advantage of NVIDIA’s latest Maxwell GPU. In fact during our benchmarks, the Tegra X1 proved to a beast in terms of performance and was found to be a lot faster than its predecessor.

Also given that the Tegra X1 can decode 4K videos at 60fps, perhaps gamers who might want a break from gaming might appreciate that feature as well. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we will be able to learn more about the next-gen NVIDIA Shield tablet in the near future.
