Apple has relied on authentication chips to ensure that accessories authorized by them are the real deal, and according to a recent report, Samsung could be set to follow suit. According to the report, Samsung is thinking about introducing authentication chips to their future accessories like those designed for the upcoming Galaxy S6.
This would allow Samsung to increase the amount of official partners they have when it comes to accessories for their phones, not to mention it would ensure that customers buying these products will have the same peace of mind knowing that the accessory they bought has been authorized by Samsung.
Prior to this rumor, Samsung had relied on authentication chips but it was only found inside Samsung’s own accessories, so if the rumor is true, it would be the first time that Samsung will be shipping these chips to third-party manufacturers. What do you guys think? Is this something you would want to see more smartphone OEMs do in the future?
