According to reports out of Korea, word has it that Samsung could have netted themselves a rather lucrative deal with both Apple and LG where Samsung will be providing both companies with LP-DDR4 RAM chips for the next-gen iPhone and the rumored LG G4. The report claims that the deal with LG is particularly lucrative as it will see Samsung supply 100% of the LG G4’s RAM.
The deal with Apple will be less at 50%, which we have to say is still a pretty significant amount. The rumors also claim that Apple could increase that amount depending on the situation as Samsung apparently has no problems meeting their demands. It does seem a bit odd that LG and Apple would place so many of their eggs into one basket, but it seems that Samsung’s 20nm technology is currently leading the way.
This is compared to SK Hynix, another RAM manufacturer, who still relies on the 25nm process which would give Samsung the edge. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but if the rumors are true, hopefully Apple and LG’s decision to rely heavily on Samsung will not affect production/release of their future handsets.
