Once Pebble was just a project looking for crowdfunding. Since then it has grown into a full fledged business. The smartwatch is now available from retailers across the country and it has continued to hold its ground even against the onslaught of smartwatches from the likes of LG, Samsung and Motorola. Pebble CEO Eric Migicovsky has revealed in an interview that on December 31st 2014 the company’s one millionth smartwatch was sent out.
In March last year Pebble reported that it had sold 400,000 units. So how was the company able to more than double its sales in what was left of 2014? Well it added new features and even cut the price. The strategy worked and sales picked up.
Speaking to The Verge Migicovsky said that Pebble will carry this momentum into 2015. He says that new products are in the pipeline and that the company is going to unveil a “new software platform that is unlike anything else used on smartwatches to date.”
Pebble’s competition will only get tough this year. By April the Apple Watch will be available in the market. Major companies like Samsung, LG, Motorola and even HTC are expected to release new smartwatches in the coming months.
It would be difficult for the company to match the marketing and advertising budgets of these huge companies but it continues to soldier on. There’s a dedicated community of Pebble users and evidently more are joining the fray as Pebble continues to take the right decisions.
